Biography
Dr. Roméo Blanc is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
He completed her PhD in Experimental Medecine at McGill University, where he studied under Dr. Stéphane Richard, focusing on epigenetic regulation of adult myogenesis through arginine methylation. Following his PhD, she pursued postdoctoral training at the University of Rochester Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Chakkalakal where he successfully linked inflammatory CCR2 signaling to muscle stem cell aging. After receiving a K99 Pathway to Independence Award from the NIA/NIH to study the epigenetic mechanisms of aging and rejuvenation in adult stem cells, he was promoted to research assistant professor under the mentoring of Drs. Dirksen, Gorbunova, Vertino, Maquat, and Calvi. His independent research program remains centered on the epigenetic regulation of aging and stem cell biology, specifically examining how systemic factors and iron metabolism influence the regenerative capacity of muscle stem cells (MuSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs).
Dr. Blanc is a recognized expert in the field of epigenetic regulation of stem cells and his lab investigates how aging-related inflammation and iron dysregulation contribute to stem cell dysfunction. In addition to his research, he is deeply committed to training the next generation of scientists, fostering an environment of collaboration, creativity, and scientific curiosity.
