 About Our Lab:

The Blanc lab focuses on the inflammatory-driven epigenetic regulation of stem cell biology and aging, with a particular interest in targeting H4K20 methylation to rejuvenate aged stem cell epigenomes and improve regenerative function. We investigate how systemic factors and inflammatory signals influence muscle stem cell fate decisions and contribute to ferroptosis and iron metabolism in aging. Our research aims to develop innovative strategies to enhance muscle regeneration and extend lifespan and healthspan.

Open Position(s)

Ph.D. Candidate

We are seeking one passionate and motivated PhD candidate to join our research team. In our lab, you’ll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, receive one-on-one mentorship, and contribute to impactful science in a collaborative and supportive environment. We highly value creativity, resilience, and a deep commitment to scientific discovery.

Our lab focuses on understanding how systemic molecular and cellular changes drive the aging process and how stem cells can be rejuvenated. We use muscle stem cells to study tissue regeneration and skeletal muscle aging, alongside hematopoietic stem cells to investigate their broader effects on inflammation and systemic aging. We believe that uncovering how dysfunction in aged stem cells contributes to tissue degeneration and accelerates aging across the body is key to developing strategies that promote healthy aging.

If you’re interested in joining our lab, please send your CV, undergraduate transcripts, and a motivation letter outlining your research interests and goals.

Important: Note that candidates must first be enrolled and accepted into a graduate program at UW–Madison before applying to join a lab. For more information, visit Graduate School Admissions page to learn more about the admissions process, degree programs, and contact information for admissions. We recommend checking the Cellular and Molecular Biology program. Mentioning the lab and other labs of interest in your application letter can help strengthen your application.
