June

Congrats to Hannah on passing her preliminary exam and officially becoming a Ph.D. candidate!

Congrats to Ellie, Gayatri and Jaden on their paper, “A Ferric Ammonium Citrate-Based Model of Iron Overload With Ferroptosis-Associated Readouts In C2C12 Myoblasts,” published in JoVE!

May

Congrats to Angel on receiving a T32 fellowship through the Metabolism and Nutrition Training Program (MANTP)!

April

Congrats to Hannah and Gayatri for receiving the Merit Award and Travel Award at the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) 2026 Annual Meeting in Montreal, Canada!

Congrats to Adam for receiving the Hilldale Undergraduate Research Fellowship!

Congrats to Gayatri for winning a Top 3 Poster Award, and to Hannah for being recognized as a Top 10 poster finalist at the 20th Annual Wisconsin Stem Cell Symposium!

Congrats to Ellie on her acceptance to the MD-PhD Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center! Wishing you all the best on this exciting next chapter and we’ll miss you!

March

Welcome to our new postdoc Dr. Deepak Pant!

February

Congrats to Gayatri for receiving the 2026 SCRMC Postdoctoral Training Award!

Congrats to Gayatri for winning best poster award at the SMPH Collaborate event focusing on postdocs!

Congrats to Adam for being selected for the CRB Summer Undergraduate Internship Program!

January

Welcome to our new graduate student Angel Perez!
Angel’s research will focus on the metabolic mechanisms regulating stem cell function, quiescence, and aging.

2025

October

Congrats to Gayatri on her review article, “The systemic costs of hematopoietic stem cell aging,” published in Development!

August

Congrats to Gayatri and Hannah for winning the Travel Award at the International Society for Regenerative Biology Conference!

July

Blanc lab was featured in a UW School of Medicine and Public Health news article highlighting our recent Nature Aging study on how inflammation-driven epigenetic erosion promotes ferroptosis in aged muscle stem cells. Congratulations!

June

Congratulations to Roméo, Gayatri, Hannah, and Ellie on the Blanc lab’s first research paper published in Nature Aging!

February

The Blanc lab received funding from the Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine Center to study blood stem cell aging.
The funding will help us generate a high-quality multi-omics dataset to elucidate the epigenetic and transcriptional regulation of ferroptosis in aging hematopoietic stem cells.
Congrats to Gayatri for this award!

January

Welcome Hannah Hwang! The first graduate student in the Blanc lab!
Hannah is excited to uncover the transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate stem cell transition from quiescence to activation.

2024

September

Welcome Dr. Gayatri Puri ! The first postdoc in the Blanc lab!
Dr. Puri will work on mechanisms of HSC aging and rejuvenation in response to aerobic exercise.

August

The Blanc lab received its NOA for the R00 from the NIA to study the rejuvenating effects of aerobic exercise on aged stem cell epigenome.
We are looking for motivated talented young scientists with interests in stem cells, aging biology, and epigenetics to help us tackle this project!
Currently, we are looking for graduate students. Check the recruitment page for more info about open positions!

Welcome to Ellie Wacker! First official member of the lab!
Ellie brings her experience as a lab manager to help the Blanc lab starts its journey! Let’s go!
